Drip bag coffee sits somewhere between a pour over and an instant sachet. You get real ground coffee, brewed fresh in your own cup, without a machine, a grinder or filter papers. For anyone in the UAE who wants a proper cup at the office, in a hotel room, on a desert camping night or simply on a busy morning at home, it is one of the easiest ways to drink specialty coffee.
This guide explains what a drip bag is, how to brew one step by step, the small details that make the cup better, and how drip bags work for offices and hospitality.
What Is a Drip Bag?
A drip bag is a single-serve filter pouch filled with ground coffee. It has two folding paper hangers on the sides that hook over the rim of your cup, so the bag hangs inside the cup while you pour hot water through it. The water passes through the coffee and the filter and drips straight into your cup, which is where the name comes from.
Think of it as a tiny pour over that comes with its own filter and its own measured dose. Each sachet is sealed one cup at a time, so the bag you open at the end of the box should taste like the first one.
Drip bags, capsules and instant coffee
- Drip bags use ground coffee and gravity, like a pour over. You need hot water and a cup, nothing else.
- Capsules use ground coffee and a machine that pushes pressurised water through it for an espresso-style cup. Our capsules are Nespresso Original-compatible.
- Instant coffee is coffee that has already been brewed and dried into granules, which you dissolve in water.
If you already love the convenience of capsules but often find yourself away from your machine, drip bags fill that gap. We cover other machine-free options in our guide to travel-friendly coffee.
What You Need
- One drip bag
- A mug or cup that holds at least 200 ml, ideally with a wide, sturdy rim
- Hot water, around 92°C
- A kettle, preferably one with a narrow spout for a slow pour
No kettle thermometer? Bring the water to a boil and let it rest for about a minute before pouring.
How to Brew Drip Bag Coffee, Step by Step
- Tear open the sachet along the dotted line at the top of the filter.
- Open the hangers and hook them over the rim of your cup so the bag sits evenly inside.
- Bloom the coffee. Pour just enough hot water to wet all the grounds, then wait about 30 seconds. The coffee will puff up slightly as it releases gas.
- Pour the rest slowly. Add the water in slow circles, in two or three small pours, letting each one drain a little before the next. Aim for roughly 180 ml in total.
- Lift the bag out and enjoy. From first pour to first sip, it takes about three minutes.
Tips for a better cup
- Pour slowly and in stages. Filling the bag to the top in one go can make water spill over the edges and run past the coffee instead of through it.
- Mind the cup height. In a shallow cup the bottom of the bag can sit in the coffee you have already brewed. A taller mug keeps the bag above the liquid.
- Pre-warm your cup with a splash of hot water on cooler mornings, then pour it away before brewing.
- Adjust the strength with water. For a stronger, rounder cup, use a little less water. For a lighter cup, add a little more.
- Taste before adding milk or sugar. Single-origin Yemeni coffee has a lot of natural character, and many people find they enjoy it black.

When Drip Bags Make the Most Sense
At the office
Drip bags are a simple way to offer real coffee in an office pantry without buying, cleaning or maintaining a machine. Everyone brews their own cup, so there is no shared pot going cold on a hot plate, and a box takes up almost no space in a drawer. For teams that already use a capsule machine, a box of drip bags is a handy backup for meeting rooms and smaller branches.
In hospitality
Hotel rooms, serviced apartments, holiday homes and glamping sites can leave a few drip bags next to the kettle so guests can brew a fresh cup whenever they like. Single-origin Yemeni coffee also tells a story, which makes it a thoughtful touch for guests visiting the UAE.
Travel and the outdoors
Drip bags are light, flat and need only hot water, so they slip easily into a carry-on, a gym bag or a camping kit for a winter night in the desert or a weekend in the mountains.
Gifting
A box of drip bags is an easy introduction to Yemeni coffee for friends, family or clients who may not own a coffee machine. Mixing Matari, Kholani and Yafei lets them taste the difference between regions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much water should I use for one drip bag?
About 180 ml for each 10 g sachet. Use a little less for a stronger cup and a little more for a lighter one.
What water temperature is best?
Around 92°C. If you don’t have a thermometer, let boiled water rest for about a minute before pouring.
Can I reuse a drip bag?
We don’t recommend it. Most of the flavour is extracted in the first brew, and a second pour tends to taste thin and flat.
Can I make iced coffee with a drip bag?
Yes. Brew with a little less hot water to make a stronger cup, then pour it over a glass full of ice.
Do I need a special kettle?
No, any kettle works. A gooseneck kettle simply makes it easier to pour slowly and evenly.
Do you deliver drip bags across the UAE?
Yes. Delivery across the UAE takes 1 to 3 days, and it is free on orders of AED 400 or more. For GCC, US and UK shipping, message us on WhatsApp for rates.
